The Project – Annual Report
The executive team asked for a fresh take on the traditional style annual report. The goal was to succinctly capture the who, what and where of Save the Children while demonstrating impact. The report not only needed to satisfy government compliance, it also needed to serve as a marketing tool to shift audiences from being “interested” to “choosing and championing” Save the Children.
Solution
We created a highly engaging ‘magazine-style’ report that gave readers a sense of the whole story – from the issues faced by children to Save the Children’s holistic approach to those issues.
We put the child at the center of the narrative by using full page, bold images. We highlighted key statistics in an infographic style for easy readability, helping audiences understand and be inspired by Save the Children’s vision and work.
My Role
For this project, I was involved in every stage, from concept to execution. I assisted with stakeholder consultation, brief and project timeline creation. I was the lead designer for concept development, presentation and final execution. I managed printing of final reports and provided direction for creation of all supporting materials for digital channels.
The Project – Bi-Annual Magazine
World’s Children is a bi-annual supporter magazine that keeps donors up to date with the programs their contributions support and provides evidence as to how they are helping children around the world.
The printed magazine is mailed to donors along with a cover letter and donation form. Supporting channels include email and social media, linking to an e-magazine on the website.
The Solution
World’s Children had undergone a redesign less than a year before Save the Children went through a global re-branding. The challenge presented was to update the magazine, incorporating key elements of the new brand while maintaining a connection with the old design as to not confuse the donor.
We made the decision to apply the new brand with a soft touch. The new colour palette was used to enhance navigation and brighten up the pages. The new illustration style was applied to icons and powerful imagery helped to tell stories.
My Role
After consulting with the stakeholders on brief preparation, I identified key areas to focus on for the re-design. Once rough concepts were approved I provided creative direction to the Senior Designer on the project while ensuring the project remained on brief.
